NextJet was a Swedish regional airline that operated scheduled and charter passenger services across Sweden and to neighboring Nordic countries. The carrier specialized in connecting smaller regional airports to larger hubs, playing an important role in maintaining air links for remote communities in northern Sweden.
Founded in the early 2000s, NextJet grew to become a significant regional operator, frequently winning public service obligation (PSO) contracts subsidized by the Swedish government to serve routes that would otherwise be commercially unviable. The airline operated a fleet of turboprop and regional jet aircraft suited to short-haul regional routes.
NextJet ceased operations in April 2018 after filing for bankruptcy, leaving several remote Swedish communities temporarily without air service. The collapse caused significant disruption to passengers and highlighted the challenges of sustaining regional aviation in sparsely populated areas.
