Malawian Airlines

Malawian Airlines is the national carrier of Malawi, established as a joint venture between the Government of Malawi and Ethiopian Airlines. The airline was formed to replace the defunct Air Malawi, which ceased operations in 2013 after decades of financial difficulties. The airline operates regional routes connecting Lilongwe's Kamuzu International Airport to destinations across southern and eastern Africa. Ethiopian Airlines holds a significant equity stake and provides operational and technical support, giving the carrier access to a broader network through its partnership. Malawian Airlines has worked to modernize its operations and expand its route network, though it remains a relatively small regional carrier facing the typical challenges of operating in a landlocked, developing country with a limited aviation market.
