Avianova (Russia)

Avianova was a Russian low-cost carrier that operated domestic flights within Russia, positioning itself as one of the country's first true budget airlines. The airline aimed to bring affordable air travel to Russian passengers by offering no-frills services and competitive fares on popular domestic routes. Founded as a joint venture, Avianova operated primarily out of Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport and served numerous cities across Russia. Despite initial growth and a promising market position, the airline faced significant financial difficulties and operational challenges. Avianova ceased operations in October 2011 after failing to secure necessary funding and resolve ongoing financial disputes between its shareholders. Its collapse left thousands of passengers stranded and highlighted the difficulties of sustaining low-cost carrier models in the Russian aviation market at the time.
