Fly the Good Times — India's premium airline experience.
Founded
2005
Headquarters
Bangalore, India
Kingfisher Airlines was an Indian private carrier founded by liquor baron Vijay Mallya and his UB Group conglomerate. Launched in 2005, the airline quickly positioned itself as a premium, full-service carrier offering a distinctive hospitality-focused experience modeled on international business-class standards, even in economy class.
At its peak, Kingfisher operated a large domestic network across India and expanded into international routes after acquiring a stake in Air Deccan in 2007, which also granted it the international flying rights it initially lacked. The airline was known for its distinctive red livery, attractive cabin crew uniforms, and high service standards.
Kingfisher Airlines ceased all operations in October 2012 following mounting financial losses, unpaid debts, fuel supplier disputes, and the eventual suspension of its operating license by India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation. It never officially filed for bankruptcy but effectively collapsed, leaving thousands of employees unpaid and creditors with billions of rupees in outstanding dues.
Hubs & network
Kingfisher Airlines primarily operated from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore.
Fleet
Kingfisher operated a mixed fleet including Airbus A320 family aircraft, ATR 72 turboprops inherited from Air Deccan, and Airbus A330s for long-haul and international routes.
