Malév

Malév Hungarian Airlines was the national flag carrier of Hungary, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services from its main base at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. At its peak, the airline served dozens of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia. Founded in 1946 as a joint Soviet-Hungarian venture under the name MASZOVLET, the airline was renamed Malév in 1954 and gradually transitioned to Western aircraft during the post-communist era. It became a member of the oneworld alliance in 2007, marking a significant step toward integration with major global carriers. Malév ceased all operations on February 3, 2012, after Hungarian government subsidies were deemed illegal state aid by the European Commission and funding was withdrawn. The sudden collapse left thousands of passengers stranded and marked the end of over 65 years of Hungarian commercial aviation history.
