Island Air (WP)

Island Air was a regional airline based in Honolulu, Hawaii, operating interisland flights across the Hawaiian archipelago. It served as one of the main competitors to Hawaiian Airlines on routes between Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai. The airline operated under IATA code WP and ICAO code MKU, and at various points in its history was affiliated with larger carriers. It faced significant financial challenges throughout its later years, struggling to compete in the competitive Hawaiian interisland market. Island Air ceased operations in November 2017 after filing for bankruptcy, ending its role as a regional carrier in Hawaii. Its closure left Hawaiian Airlines as the dominant interisland carrier, with Southwest Airlines having also entered the market.
