Patrick Space Force Base (IATA: COF, ICAO: KCOF) is a United States Space Force installation located near Cocoa Beach, Florida, on the Atlantic coast. The base is home to Space Launch Delta 45, which oversees Eastern Range launch operations. The airfield at Patrick features runways capable of supporting military aircraft operations and limited transient aviation. It is not a commercial passenger airport and does not serve scheduled airline traffic; access is restricted primarily to military and government personnel.

City & Place Guide

Surf, Space, and Sun on Florida's Brevard Coast

Cocoa Beach is a laid-back barrier island city on Florida's Atlantic coast, best known as the gateway to Kennedy Space Center and home to the iconic Ron Jon Surf Shop. With miles of sandy beaches, a lively surf culture, and a welcoming small-town vibe, it attracts families, surfers, and space enthusiasts alike.

The city sits just east of the Indian River Lagoon and offers easy access to both nature and NASA history. Visitors can watch rocket launches from the beach, explore wildlife-rich wetlands, and enjoy a relaxed coastal atmosphere that sets it apart from busier Florida resort destinations.

  • •Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex — immersive NASA exhibits and real rocket launches
  • •Ron Jon Surf Shop — legendary 24-hour surf emporium and Cocoa Beach landmark
  • •Cocoa Beach Pier — oceanfront dining, fishing, and live music over the Atlantic
  • •Canaveral National Seashore — pristine undeveloped beach and sea turtle nesting habitat

Getting around: Cocoa Beach has limited public transit; Space Coast Area Transit operates bus routes connecting the island to mainland Brevard County. Rideshares like Uber and Lyft are available but response times can vary. Renting a bicycle or car is the most practical way to explore, as most attractions are spread along a north-south corridor on A1A.

Best time: Late spring (April–May) offers warm weather, smaller crowds, and ideal beach conditions before the humid summer season peaks.

Local food: Try fresh grouper sandwiches, steamed blue crab, and shrimp tacos at the many casual waterfront seafood shacks lining Highway A1A.
