San Salvador de Jujuy, commonly called Jujuy, is the capital of Jujuy Province in northwestern Argentina. Nestled in a valley at roughly 1,260 meters above sea level, it serves as a base for exploring the stunning Quebrada de Humahuaca UNESCO World Heritage corridor and the colorful Puna highlands.

Rideshare apps such as Uber have limited availability; remises called by phone are the reliable alternative. For day trips to the Quebrada de Humahuaca, intercity buses depart regularly from the Terminal de Ómnibus.

Best time: Visit from April to June or September to November for mild temperatures, clear skies, and fewer crowds, avoiding the rainy summer months of December through February.

Local food: Don't miss locro (hearty Andean stew), humitas (steamed corn cakes), tamales jujeños, empanadas de charqui, and chicha morada, all best sampled at the Mercado Municipal or during the August festivals.
