Kansai International Airport (KIX) is a major international airport serving the Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto metropolitan region in western Japan. It was built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay, a pioneering engineering feat designed to overcome land scarcity and noise restrictions on the mainland.
The airport operates around the clock, making it one of the few 24-hour airports in Japan. It serves as a key gateway for international travelers entering the Kansai region, complementing domestic-focused Itami Airport and low-cost carrier-oriented Kobe Airport.
KIX handles tens of millions of passengers annually and is a hub for Peach Aviation and a major international gateway for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. The airport is managed by Kansai Airports, a consortium that also oversees Itami and Kobe airports.
Terminals
The airport has two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 for full-service international and some domestic carriers, and Terminal 2 primarily serving low-cost carriers including Peach Aviation.
Getting to & from
The airport is accessible from central Osaka via the Haruka limited express train (approximately 75 minutes to Kyoto), the Nankai Rapi:t express train (approximately 45 minutes to Namba), and limousine bus services.
