Kitakyushu Airport (IATA: KKJ) is a regional airport serving Kitakyushu, a major industrial city in Fukuoka Prefecture on the northern tip of Kyushu, Japan. The airport is built on an artificial island approximately 3 kilometers offshore in the Suo Sea, which allows it to operate 24 hours a day without noise restrictions affecting nearby residents.
The airport opened in 2006, replacing the former Kitakyushu Airport on the mainland. It handles domestic routes to Tokyo and other Japanese cities, as well as a limited number of international charter and scheduled services. Its offshore location and all-weather capability make it a strategically important facility for the region.
Kitakyushu is a hub for Starflyer, a low-cost carrier based at the airport, which operates flights primarily to Tokyo (Haneda). The airport also serves cargo operations and has seen gradual growth in international connectivity, particularly to destinations in Asia.
