Kualanamu International Airport is the primary international airport serving Medan, the capital of North Sumatra province and the third-largest city in Indonesia. It is located near the town of Beringin in Deli Serdang Regency, approximately 39 kilometers southeast of central Medan. The airport was built to replace the aging Polonia Airport, which was situated within the city and constrained by limited expansion capacity. Kualanamu is one of the largest airports in Indonesia by area and was designed with significant room for future growth. The airport serves as a hub for several Indonesian carriers and handles substantial passenger traffic connecting North Sumatra to domestic and international destinations across Asia and beyond.

Kualanamu International Airport — often spelled as Kuala Namu and informally abbreviated KNIA — is an international airport serving Medan, Indonesia, and other parts of North Sumatra. It is located in Deli Serdang Regency, 23 kilometres (14 mi) east of downtown Medan. Kualanamu is the third-largest airport in Indonesia after Jakarta Soekarno–Hatta and Bandung Kertajati, and the fifth busiest airport in Indonesia as of 2018, as well as the first Indonesian airport to receive a four-star rating from Skytrax.
