Kamuzu International Airport (IATA: LLW, ICAO: FWKI) is the main international airport serving Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. It is located near the town of Lumbadzi, approximately 26 kilometres north of Lilongwe city centre. The airport is named after Hastings Kamuzu Banda, the first president of Malawi. The airport handles the majority of Malawi's international passenger and cargo traffic, connecting the country to regional hubs in eastern and southern Africa as well as intercontinental destinations. A significant infrastructure upgrade and expansion project has been underway to modernise the terminal facilities and extend capacity. The airport is operated under the authority of the Malawi Airports Development Limited (MADL) and serves as the primary hub for national carrier operations as well as several African regional airlines.
