Stockholm Skavsta Airport is a regional airport located approximately 100 kilometres south of Stockholm, near the city of Nyköping in Södermanland County, Sweden. Despite its distance from the capital, it is marketed as a Stockholm airport due to its connectivity to budget carriers serving the region. The airport has roots as a Swedish Air Force base, having served military purposes before being converted to civilian use. It gained significant commercial prominence in the early 2000s when Ryanair established it as one of its Scandinavian bases, dramatically increasing passenger traffic. Passenger volumes have fluctuated considerably over the years, peaking at over three million annually before declining as route networks shifted. The airport continues to serve low-cost carriers and remains an alternative entry point for travelers visiting the greater Stockholm area.
