Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (IATA: SAI, ICAO: VDSA) is a newly constructed international airport serving Siem Reap, Cambodia, the city closest to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat. It was developed to replace the older Siem Reap International Airport (REP), which closed in November 2023 following the new airport's inauguration. City & Place Guide

Gateway to Angkor's ancient wonders and vibrant Khmer culture.

Siem Reap is a bustling city in northwestern Cambodia that serves as the base for exploring the magnificent Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing hundreds of ancient temples built between the 9th and 15th centuries. Despite its tourist infrastructure, the city retains genuine Cambodian character through its markets, riverside neighborhoods, and local pagodas.

Beyond temples, Siem Reap offers a lively food and nightlife scene centered on Pub Street and the Old Market area, along with silk weaving villages, floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake, and a growing number of contemporary art galleries and cultural centers that showcase modern Khmer creativity.

  • •Angkor Wat — the world's largest religious monument and an iconic sunrise destination.
  • •Bayon Temple — famous for its 216 serene stone faces carved into massive towers.
  • •Ta Prohm — atmospheric ruins dramatically engulfed by giant tree roots.
  • •Tonle Sap Lake — Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake with floating fishing villages.
  • •Angkor Thom — a vast walled royal city containing palaces, terraces, and temples.
  • •Preah Khan — a sprawling jungle temple with long colonnaded corridors and few crowds.

Getting around: Siem Reap has no city rail or metro system. Tuk-tuks are the most popular and affordable way to reach the temples and navigate town, with drivers often hired for full-day tours. Ride-hailing apps PassApp and Grab operate in the city and offer transparent fares for tuk-tuks and cars. Motorbike rentals and bicycle rentals are widely available for independent explorers, while guesthouses and hotels can arrange private car or minibus transfers.

Best time: Visit between November and February during the cool dry season when temperatures are comfortable and skies are clear for sightseeing.

Local food: Try fish amok (coconut-steamed fish curry), beef loc lac, fresh khmer noodle soup, and grilled street snacks at the Phsar Chas Old Market or the Angkor Night Market food stalls.
