AirlinesAirports profile

Turkmenistan's grand gateway to Central Asia.

Opened
1994
Location
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
Ashgabat International Airport is the primary international airport serving Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. It functions as the main hub for Turkmenistan Airlines and handles the majority of the country's international passenger and cargo traffic. The airport underwent a major redevelopment, with a striking new terminal complex inaugurated in 2016. The new terminal building is famously shaped like a flying falcon, reflecting Turkmenistan's national symbolism, and is one of the most architecturally distinctive airports in Central Asia. Despite its impressive infrastructure, passenger traffic remains relatively limited due to Turkmenistan's restrictive visa policies and its relative isolation from major global aviation networks. The airport is equipped with modern facilities capable of handling significantly more traffic than it currently receives.
