Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), officially named Willy Brandt Airport, serves as the primary international airport for the German capital and the surrounding Brandenburg region. It replaced the former airports Tegel and Schönefeld, consolidating Berlin's air traffic into a single modern hub. The airport was plagued by one of the most notorious construction and planning failures in German history, with its opening delayed by nearly a decade due to fire safety deficiencies, management failures, and cost overruns. Originally planned to open in 2011, it finally welcomed passengers in October 2020. Despite its troubled history, BER has grown steadily since opening, benefiting from Berlin's status as a major European capital and tourist destination. The airport is built on the site of the former Schönefeld Airport in southeastern Berlin.

Terminals

The airport has two passenger terminals: Terminal 1, the main modern facility, and Terminal 2, the refurbished former Schönefeld terminal used for additional capacity.

BER is connected to central Berlin via the Airport Express (FEX) and S-Bahn S9 rail services, as well as regional trains, buses, and taxis.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is an international airport in Schönefeld, just south of the German capital and state of Berlin, in the state of Brandenburg. It is located 18 kilometres (11 mi) south-east of the city centre and serves as a base for Condor, easyJet, Eurowings, Ryanair and Sundair. It mostly has flights to European metropolitan and leisure destinations as well as a number of intercontinental services.
