Soekarno–Hatta International Airport
Encyclopaedia

Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, also sometimes abbreviated as SHIA or Soetta, and formerly named Jakarta Cengkareng Airport due to its location in Cengkareng district, is the primary airport serving the Jakarta metropolitan area on the island of Java in Indonesia. Named after the first president and vice president of Indonesia, Sukarno (1901–1970) and Mohammad Hatta (1902–1980), the airport is located at Benda, Tangerang and Cengkareng, West Jakarta, which is about 20 km northwest of Central Jakarta. Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is the busiest and largest airport in Indonesia, serving as the country's primary international gateway. The airport functions as a major hub for Indonesian airlines, including Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Indonesia AirAsia, Pelita Air, and TransNusa. It serves domestic routes to major cities across Indonesia, as well as international destinations throughout the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In 2025, the airport handled 54.95 million passengers, ranking as the 31st busiest airport in the world and the fourth busiest in Southeast Asia.
