Opened
1961
Location
Komatsu, Japan
Komatsu Airport, officially sharing its facilities with Japan Air Self-Defense Force Komatsu Air Base, is located in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and serves as the primary commercial airport for the Kanazawa metropolitan area. The airport handles both scheduled passenger flights and active military operations, making it one of Japan's prominent joint-use civil-military airports. The airport connects the Hokuriku region to major Japanese cities and select international destinations, supporting tourism to Kanazawa, a city renowned for its well-preserved Edo-period districts, Kenroku-en Garden, and traditional crafts. JASDF's 6th Air Wing, operating F-15J fighter jets, is permanently stationed at the base, and military jet activity is a common sight alongside commercial operations. The airport gained increased regional importance following the March 2024 opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa, though the airport continues to serve routes not easily covered by rail, including international connections.
Terminals
The airport has a single passenger terminal building serving both domestic and international flights.
Getting to & from
Airport limousine buses connect Komatsu Airport to Kanazawa Station and other major points in the region, with the journey to Kanazawa taking approximately 40 minutes.
