Nyala is the capital of South Darfur State and one of Sudan's largest cities, sitting on the edge of the Sahel at roughly 1,000 meters elevation. No formal rideshare apps operate here; arranging transport through your accommodation is the most practical approach.

Best time: The coolest and most comfortable time to visit is October through February, when temperatures are mild and the worst of the dust and rain have passed.

Local food: Try asida, a thick sorghum porridge served with meat stew, along with ful medames, grilled lamb skewers, and sweet Sudanese tea spiced with ginger and cinnamon.
