Winnipeg / James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) is the primary commercial airport serving Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and the broader Prairie provinces region. It is one of Canada's busiest airports by passenger volume and serves as an important cargo hub given its central geographic location. The airport was renamed in 2006 in honour of James Armstrong Richardson, a prominent Winnipeg businessman and aviation pioneer. A major terminal redevelopment project was completed in 2011, resulting in a modern, expanded facility capable of handling increased passenger traffic and larger aircraft. Located approximately 7 kilometres northwest of downtown Winnipeg, the airport handles both domestic and international flights, including transborder routes to the United States and select overseas destinations.
