Terminal guide

Terminal 1Domestic operations, primarily low-cost carriers including IndiGo and other domestic airlines

Terminal 1 handles the majority of domestic traffic at BLR and is the busiest part of the airport. Check-in counters are spread across multiple zones; arrive at least 90 minutes before departure for domestic flights. Security queues can be lengthy during peak morning and evening hours, so use web check-in and carry only cabin baggage where possible to speed up the process.

  • Use IndiGo or airline app check-in to skip long counter queues
  • Charging stations and food courts are available post-security in the departure areas
  • ATMs and currency exchange desks are available in the check-in hall before security
Terminal 2International operations and select full-service carriers including Air India, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlin

Terminal 2 is BLR's international terminal and handles all international departures and arrivals. Arrive at least 3 hours before international flights as immigration, customs, and security checks add significant processing time. The terminal features premium lounges, duty-free shopping, and a wider range of dining options compared to Terminal 1.

  • Priority immigration lanes are available for eligible premium cabin and frequent flyer passengers
  • Duty-free purchases can be made both before departure and on arrival at designated zones
  • Check with your airline if you are unsure which terminal your flight departs from, as allocations can change

Transfers: Passengers transferring between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 must use the complimentary inter-terminal shuttle bus service or taxis available outside arrivals; allow at least 45–60 minutes for the transfer, especially during peak hours.

Terminal 2 is genuinely impressive — very well designed and the art installations make the wait enjoyable. Security queues can be brutal during peak hours though, took me nearly 40 minutes on a Monday morning flight to Mumbai. Food options near Gate 19 are decent, tried the MTR outlet and it was satisfying. Staff at check-in were helpful and polite overall.

The new T2 terminal is absolutely beautiful and the washrooms are spotless — one of the cleanest I have seen at any Indian airport, no exaggeration. But the drop-off and pickup situation outside is a complete nightmare, especially during evenings; we sat in the cab for 25 minutes just to inch forward to the departure gate. Parking charges are also highway robbery for anything beyond 2 hours. They really need to sort out the traffic management.

Flying out of T1 on an IndiGo flight and honestly T1 feels like a completely different airport compared to the shiny T2 — a bit dated and cramped during rush hour. The free WiFi connected quickly and worked fine for calls on WhatsApp while waiting. Food options in T1 are quite limited and overpriced for what you get; paid 320 rupees for a mediocre samosa and chai combo. Security was smooth and the CISF team was professional.
