Overview
Archway is a district in the London Borough of Islington, situated in North London roughly four miles from central London. It takes its name from the Archway Road — a thoroughfare cut through Highgate Hill in the early nineteenth century — and the neighbourhood has grown around the busy Archway roundabout and its Underground station.
The area has a distinctly local, working-class character that sets it apart from the more polished villages of Highgate and Hampstead immediately to its north and northwest.
