Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (IATA: BLR, ICAO: VOBL) is the primary international airport serving Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state and India's technology hub. Named after the 16th-century founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda I, the airport is operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), a public-private consortium.
The airport is one of the busiest in India by passenger traffic and cargo volume, serving as a major hub for IndiGo and Air India Express, among other carriers. It handles both domestic and international routes connecting Bengaluru to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
A second terminal, Terminal 2, opened in 2023 and was designed with sustainability and biophilic design principles, featuring lush indoor gardens and LEED Platinum-level construction. The addition significantly expanded the airport's annual passenger handling capacity.
Terminals
The airport operates two terminals: the original Terminal 1 for domestic and some international flights, and the newer Terminal 2, inaugurated in 2023, designed with a nature-inspired biophilic aesthetic.
Getting to & from
The airport is connected to central Bengaluru by the Namma Metro Purple Line extension (Kempegowda International Airport Metro Station), taxis, app-based cabs, and dedicated airport buses via the KSRTC Vayu Vajra service.
